Isaac's First Gadget
Okay, so truth be told it's really more of a gadget for me...but trust me, Isaac will reap the benefits!
For those of you who may not know this about me, I'm a little bit of an organization freak. I like lists and I like things just so. So when we got to the homtel we started an Isaac log (yes, very similar to the dog log, but we aren't keeping track of how many times Isaac barks=) This log was to keep track of when we fed him last, how much he ate and when we changed his diaper and what we found in it. We found this really helped in trying to determine what exactly that cry was about. But at two in the morning it gets a little hard to read and/or write in the dark...
When Traci was here to visit she mentioned that her friend Cari heard about this gadget that helps with this. It's called an Itzbeen. In a nutshell it is a timer, but not just for one thing...it has a timer button for eating, diapers, sleeping and one that is unassigned. So every time the bottle hits Isaac's little lips, you push the button and it starts the timer. The only thing that it doesn't keep track of is how much he is eating or the consistency of his poop, but thankfully I am able to give up that little tidbit!
Thanks to Traci, Cari and the Zoo Aunts (they picked up this little gem while at Target for us!) for bringing this gadget into our world!

More Adventures
We had more new people to meet today! Lynn, Bridget (Aunties from the Zoo) and Lynn's husband Garrett came down for a visit! We adventured to the other side of the hotel parking lot to the Applebee's for lunch. Then after a bit of snuggle time, the girls left the boys to go to Target.
We went to Target to get started on registering for Isaac's wish list. It is never a good idea to turn us girls loose in a Target, especially with a registry gun. But I think we all had fun, and the girls were a big help in deciding what might be helpful to have! I'm sure there are a ton more things to add! My Safety Officer, Bridget, wants to make sure we add some child proofing items to the list, but since I can't remember how many cabinets and drawers are in the house (it's been so long since we've been there!) that I thought it would be easier to add those things after we got home. Plus we wanted to save a few things for Justin to pick out!
Now you may be wondering how things with the boys went. Well, I'm happy to report that they were all three awake and watching football when we returned...so I think things went pretty well!

First Lunch Date and Other Happenings
Isaac had his first lunch date! A whole bunch of people came to take him to lunch today, we had Mimi Gladys, Barry, Regena, Celeste and Christin! We wandered across the parking lot to the Rib Crib, one of Gena's favorites for chicken nachos!
Lunch was just in time too, the cleaning lady was coming and we needed to get out of there! We had a nice lunch with only a few rounds of mild fussiness. Then it was time to go back to the room for a little snuggle time and Christmas Part 4!
While at lunch we got a call from the doctor's office wanting to change our appointment from tomorrow to today, because...guess what, snow is in the forecast...again! Thankfully not much and it should be a fairly warm day tomorrow so it shouldn't last long! But the doctor had the time, so we headed off to the appointment, while our visitors headed off to do a little shopping before they headed back home!
Isaac is happy to report that he is now 7 lbs. 5 oz., he is now past his birth weight! Go Isaac! He is also now 20 3/4" long and his noggin is getting bigger too! Must be all the new people he is meeting! Gotta keep creating wrinkles on that little brain!
And last but not least...Isaac saw his first real live fire truck from War Acres Station 22 in the grocery store parking lot! Before this he had only seen Garret's fire truck collection (or at least the traveling exhibit!) So Garret, Isaac totally gets it now, fire trucks are cool!

Things I Forgot To Mention Earlier
1. Late Christmas night I was startled with the announcement that something fell off of Isaac. In my sleep induce stupor I jumped from bed and said "WHAT?!?!?!" After my heart stopped beating so fast, I realized that Justin was talking about his umbilical cord, I felt much better! So Isaac now has a very cute little belly button!
This also has another cute little story to go along with this topic. After Garret came to visit last week, he was telling everyone that Isaac had a tree growing out of his tummy! It was my great pleasure to tell him on Saturday that Isaac no longer had the tree.
2. Later that same evening, Justin announced that his other device (dealing with his circumcision) had fallen off! Don't worry, no pictures to follow! Isaac had a pretty big night!
3. Isaac is starting to hold up his head a lot more! It's amazing how strong that little neck is! It is pretty amazing to be burping him and for him to suddenly turn his head to look at you!
4. The grand total for the Christmas Eve Blizzard of 2009 was 14", a new state record for these parts! It sounds like there is more on the way Tuesday night and maybe again on Thursday. =( I don't think it will be anywhere near as much as the last time...but you never know! We've gone from weather in the mid 50's on the day Isaac was born to 30's and snow as far as the eye can see, it's hard to know how to dress in the morning!

Christmas Part 2
We had a big day yesterday! We finally got to meet Grammy Mary and Grandpa Jack, Papa Steve and Uncle Tyler (the rest of the family was there too!)
The roads down here finally cleared up enough to allow us to leave the hotel parking lot, and for our parents and siblings to brave the interstate to come down for a visit. We all met over at Sherry & Kevin's for the afternoon and evening. Isaac handled meeting all the new people like a champ! He slept through most of it...but I'm sure that he could hear all of the oohs and awes and feel the love all around him! It was also nice to get out of our little hotel room!
We opened presents with the Harts and then had KFC for dinner. We were then going to open presents with the Grahams, but we were ALL pretty tired and decided to do Christmas Part 3 this afternoon. This may be the Christmas that never ends! But it has been fun, and has given us something to do other than stare at Isaac and/or the TV!

Tuckered Out!
As Christmas night is coming to an end, it appears that my two boys are a little on the tired side!
Though this has not been a typical Christmas for us, we've had lots of calls, texts and emails from our families and friends throughout the day that have made it seem right. We even had a visit from Aunt Sherry, Uncle Kevin and cousin Aubree!
We are so blessed to have this very special reason for being away from you all. Isaac is truly a gift from both God and Rachael.

I'm a little worried that J-money may be going a little stir crazy! He came up with this one on his own, shortly after the photo shoot. He thought this picture looked like Isaac was throwin' down some rhymes!
We're Ready For Santa
Isaac is snuggled up in his new Christmas pjs and we are watching "White Christmas" for our evening entertainment.
Isaac won't have to dream of a white Christmas this year! They are saying that OKC has gotten about 11.5" of snow...and that was at 5:30 p.m.! It has just now started to stop. At last account this snow is tied for the 8th greatest snow in OK history, if I'm getting my facts straight.
It has been interesting to watch cars try to get out of the hotel parking lot. So far there is a truck and a little car stuck near the driveway and one mini van that may have made it to the Applebee's parking lot next door, and that took a long time. Needless to say I don't think that we will be going anywhere in the very near future.
Sleep tight...Santa is on his way!
It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, sort of!
As the snow was (and still is) falling outside our window, we decide that we needed to do a little holiday decorating. Now, in an effort not to pack the entire house for this journey, we didn't bring any of our Christmas stuff with us. But thanks to our friends and family we have pieced together a little holiday cheer.
We have lined up baby and Christmas cards on the frame of a picture that is hanging on the wall. Our friends at the Zoo sent a beautiful flower arrangement, it just happens to have some evergreen branches in it...so that is working as our decorated tree (flowers make great ornaments, don't you think!) Nana brought Isaac his first stocking, amazing how fast she got that together! And Garret supplied the cookies for Santa.
So we should be fairly set for the big day! The only thing to worry about now is the snow! It sounds like this may be the storm of the century (according to local weather people...Jay, Merrill and who ever is at CH3 are not alone in their dramatics) it has been since 2000 that folks around here have seen snow on Christmas. And we are talking a lot of snow at this point! They are predicting 6" to 8" inches, and highways are closing left and right down here! We've also heard quite a few emergency personnel whizzing by outside our hotel, not good.
At this point it is looking like Grandma Mary & Grandpa Jack are not going to make the trek down here until Saturday, maybe the afternoon of Christmas day if we are lucky! We talked to Papa Steve today and they are going to watch things pretty carefully and make the call a little later. We want everyone to be super safe, no matter when they come to visit. It won't be any fun for Isaac if his family gets stuck in a huge snow drift on I-35!

Garret Loves Isaac!
Wilma, Traci and Garret just couldn't stand it any longer...and came down for a quick visit.
Garret declared his love for Isaac almost immediately and wanted to hold and kiss him. We were even going to sweeten the deal by having Isaac dressed in a little fire truck outfight. But as noted in earlier post...that outfit met an untimely and wet end earlier in the day. But we didn't seem to need that outfit, it was love at first sight (at least until Isaac tries to play with a fire truck!)As Hudson and Callista already know...he is going to be a wonderful big cousin!
We had a nice couple of hours and then it was time for the to head back home! A Wet Day
It finally happened...Isaac got Justin. Three and a half times in a span of less than 24 hours!
I awoke at some point in the middle of the night to a distraught Justin who was dealing with a little extra clean-up task than he hadn't bargained for! Thankfully Isaac didn't soak his own clothes too bad, but he managed to get Justin's arm pretty good and a tiny bit on the little couch (sorry hotel!)
Isaac would probably not want me to mention this, but on the third "attack" he successfully got his tummy and a little on face before we got him covered up! He was very embarrassed, or maybe that was just mad!
I suppose we should have suspected something like this was on the horizon...Isaac jumped from eating 1 oz or less of formula to 2 and 3 oz...he was loading up! Since the overload, we have dropped back to about 1 oz, so we might stay dry the rest of the day. Keeping our fingers crossed!
He even tried to get Justin and I while at the Doctor's office today! Night #2
I think we have this figured out...right until he changes the game...but for now I think we have a plan. Instead of taking turns with every wake-up, we took shifts. By the looks of things, both of us are quite a bit more rested!
And I might be crazy but I think that Issac slept a little more too!
Justin said this morning that he is a worried about the routine when we make it back home...so many stairs. We are getting used to sort of just rolling out of bed into the kitchen! I'm pretty sure we can adapt!

Christmas 101
Justin decided that he needed a little Christmas spirit and a movie was in order! We found "A Christmas Carol" on and settled in to watch. This is probably not one of my favorites, a little on the sad and scary side...but it would do.
We took the time to explain to Isaac the whole Christmas thing. We told him all about Santa and the reindeer. We even sang a few carols...a little surprised when he didn't scream at that or that the front desk didn't call with complaints! We also discussed Christmas trees, but that was a little hard to imagine since he has yet to see a regular tree, let alone one all decorated and lit!
Today's lesson will be the story of baby Jesus! I have a feeling he will be able to relate to this story a little better!

A Little Car Destoyer?
So it all began early on Friday morning when Rachael and family were trying to get to the hospital. Somewhere along the journey their car broke down. Miraculously they made it to the hospital with out having to deliver Isaac themselves!
Now cut to Sunday evening. We had just gotten to the hotel and settled in with Isaac. When it was dinner time, Justin left to run and get something. Upon his return he announced that the check engine light on the Jeep had come on. Uh Oh! So this afternoon he ran out to have the diagnostics run.
Not good news...it appears that the transmission is just about shot!
So you tell me...coincidence? What is the common factor in both of these stories? Isaac? Surely not!
Not to worry, we have a back-up plan for travel around town. We'll just borrow one of Sherry and Kevin's cars for a few days while getting the Jeep fixed.

Why this particular blog title?
The Hebrew meaning of Isaac is "he will laugh." Not to profound of a reason, but it seemed to make sense.
Plus with having Justin and I as parents...he is sure to laugh at us, but hopefully more with us!
First Night
We are happy to report that we have made it through the first night at "home" with Isaac! It wasn't quite what I expected...not sure if that means it was better or worse than I imagined...just different!
We were up every time he made a squeak...which is one of Isaac's favorite pastimes! And we even had frets of whether he was too hot or too cold. We eventually figured out that he sprung a leak in his diaper and was not sweating profusely from his bottom! Silly I know, but we weren't exactly thinking straight at 2 o'clock in the morning!
So far so good with the rest of this morning! Justin is going to venture out this afternoon and pick up a few supplies that we just didn't think about...should be interesting to see how he does with a solo trip to the baby isle at Target!
